On August 8, Shula Mozes, the founder of Lamerhav, came together with the board of directors, for a touching and exciting visit at the halfway house for female young adults from an ultra-orthodox background. For the past two years, Lamerhav has been running a mentoring project designed for ultra-Orthodox women aged 18-24 without a family support network, that are graduates of the “Nigunim” Hostel in Jerusalem. The halfway house is operated by the “Bat Melech” organization.
The female young adults and the staff at the halfway house really enjoyed the visit, shared their thoughts about the importance of the program, indicated how much the guidance and support have contributed to them and shared how the guidance and support provided by the counsellor have changed their lives for the better. It was very important for all of them to talk about their personal experience and how much they appreciate the support they receive every day. The Lamerhav team was very impressed by the significant work being done, and from the well-designed and homey environment, and was truly moved by the lovely, and powerful, young women.
At the age of 18, the young women complete the process at the hostel and have to return to their communities, or alternatively, manage on their own. The reality is that they still need the guidance and support at this age as well. To this end, the unique halfway house was established, where they can live and manage their lives independently, but also receive guidance, support and mentoring for the future.
Lamerhav, which specializes in the guidance and support of framework graduates, provides professional support by a counsellor from the ultra-orthodox community, who understands the challenges, ways and subtleties of working with the ultra-orthodox sector.
Pesia, who mentors the young women, said that the main goal was to prepare them for independent lives. Whether it is service, studies, or employment, the goals vary from one to another. In addition, there is also the element of meeting the young women, talking, sharing, containing, providing another perspective – finding the purpose and goals together.
Thank you to the “Bat Melech” organization, the “Nigunim” hostel, Pesia and the young women for your lovely hospitality and moving experience!
